  • This setup is designed to demonstrate the
    motion of the center of mass. The natural
    movements of objects are determined by their
    center of mass. According to the laws of physics,
    a center of mass is likely to fail. Because of the
    way this setup has been constructed, although
    the center of mass is falling, it seems as if the
    object is climbing. This principle is the same by
    which ballerinas appear to stay up in the air for
    long durations.
